Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is incredibly one of the designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is lying in the Southwestern side of Uganda. A journey to Bwindi to enjoy your gorilla trek involves exploring one of the 24 habituated groups in this spectacular Park. An experienced guide will be available to take you on a safe search for mountain gorillas starting from any of the 4 regions: Ruhija, Nkuringo, Rushaga, and Buhoma.

Beyond the gorilla encounter, your 3 days Bwindi gorilla trek also allows you to have a great moment at the Batwa pygmy community. At the Batwa village, expect to personally meet the Batwa pygmies –these are a few indigenous groups of people in Uganda with distinct cultures, traditions, and ancient hunting plus fruit-gathering techniques. A lot awaits you to unpack while with the Batwa pygmies’ village.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Entebbe/Kampala & Depart safely to Bwindi

Get to meet your safari expert from Uganda for a short briefing about today’s journey. It will be today when you will set off to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where your gorilla trek is expected to take place. Traveling to Bwindi by road will take between 8 and 9 hours but en route, expect to have the Equator crossing experience.

At the Equator crossing in Kayabwe, you will concentrate on taking pictures and leg stretching or spend some time performing a water experience if time allows. After the Equator crossing excursion, proceed safely to Igongo to be provided lunch.

Leave Igongo for Bwindi National Park accessing the Park through the Masaka-Mbarara city. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the Kigezi hillside plus the vast banana plantation. On arrival at Bwindi, continue straight to the lodge for you to check in and spend the rest of the evening organizing yourself.

Day 2:Mountain gorilla trekking & tour Batwa Village.

Early morning pick up from your lodge and travel to the Buhoma sector or any region as guided by the gorilla permit. Arrive early at the gorilla trekking regions/sector for you to get briefed on the guidelines or regulations. The briefing session with the park official will take about half an hour, and it will be at this time when you can be assigned a group of gorillas to visit.

The gorilla groups to be visited at the Buhoma region include the Katwe group, Muyambi, Habinyanja, Rushegura, and the Mubare gorilla group. Before you come across a group of these apes, you may spend about 2-6 hours, but this covers a maximum of 1 hour for photography and observing the unique gorillas. After this session, you will get back to the lodge just to chill and to have lunch. The expert will again pick you up and transfer you to Batwa village to enjoy distinct cultural experiences.

Today marks the end of your inspirational 3 Days Bwindi gorilla trek, and at leisure you will enjoy your breakfast. After the delicious breakfast, you will check out and officially exit the lodge. Drive back to Kampala/Entebbe City with an en route lunch to be enjoyed in Mbarara. Your return journey is flexible in that you can also cross through the Katuna or Chanika border to Kigali City. If you cross to Kigali, then you may engage in a short city tour and later be dropped off at the hotel/airport.
