The unforgettable 4 Days Rwanda gorillas and Dian Fossey offers a combined gorilla trekking experience and Dian Fossey tomb hike. Gorilla trekking focuses mainly on mountain gorilla encounters in Volcanoes National Park, where you will find these large apes in the wild. The Dian Fossey tomb hike allows you to embark on a discovery journey to learn more about the Dian Fossey legacy.
Both the Dian Fossey tomb hike and gorilla trekking will be conducted in the lush Volcanoes National Park. The Volcanoes National Park is part of the vast Virunga Conservation Areas, and is among the oldest Parks. It will be at Volcanoes National Park where you stand a chance of a trek to see any of the park’s 13 groups that have been opened for gorilla tourism.
The Dian Fossey trek not only take you to explore more about Dian Fossey, but you walk through the journey she did as a prominent conservationist in the Virunga region. As you connect to the tomb site, expect to also explore the Karisoke Research Center. It was at the Karisoke Research Center where Dian Fossey conducted her groundbreaking work.

Detailed Itinerary
Enjoy a heavy breakfast at the hotel in the heart of Kigali, then later meet your experienced driver guide from Alba Wonders Africa. The driver guide will take you briefly on your itinerary that takes you 4 days, focusing mainly to gorilla trekking and the Dian Fossey tomb hike.
Expect to begin your 4 days Rwanda gorillas & Dian Fossey by exiting Kigali for Volcanoes National Park. Driving from Kigali to Volcanoes, which lies in Ruhengeri/Musanze, will take you about 2-3 hours. Access to Volcanoes National Park will be done in a classic 4x4 tourist vehicle from Alba Wonders Africa. Arrive at Volcanoes National Park early for you to be dropped off to the pre-booked gorilla safari lodge. Have a leisurely time at the safari lodge or camp, and prepare for your next day that includes actual gorilla trekking.

Time on road: 2-3 hours
Leave your camp/lodge after having a delicious breakfast. Get to Kinigi by car and meet the park official from Volcanoes National Park to provide you with insight into the guidelines/rules/etiquette. Everyone will be expected at the park offices since it is a day when the park officials allocate habituated gorilla groups and ranger guides to visitors. The briefing may start at around 6.30 am till 7.30 am with several things expected to be done, including clearing visitors before they start the briefing session.
After the briefing, your ranger guide will accompany you through the search for gorillas in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. This will take about 2-6 hours as you intensely search for gorillas in the lush vegetation. The moment you come across a group of Rwanda gorillas, expect to stay for a maximum of 1 hour with your favorite apes. This will be the most mesmerizing moment and a great chance to capture pictures of these gentle species.
Once you have maximized the one hour, you will get back to the safari lodge or camp for a leisurely time. Use this period to share more about your exhilarating gorilla trekking experience.

Have a delicious breakfast, and after, you will be picked up by an Alba Wonders Africa driver. Connect back to Kinigi, where you will be briefed on the Dian Fossey adventure. The ranger guide will be availed to escort you to the conservation journey to unearth more about the Dian Fossey legacy. The Dian Fossey trek may extend for 2-4 hours, then you will return to relax at the lodge.
Later in the afternoon, you will assemble at the Iby’Iwacu village to interact with the Rwandan people, learn more about the Rwandan culture, traditions, and other exceptional practices.

Have a leisurely breakfast in your respective lodges, and later, you will officially check out. On this day, you will bid farewell to the lodge and Volcanoes National Park, then return safely to Kigali. At Kigali, have an early city excursion with an expert, where you will be visiting the Kigali genocide memorial. You may also have a brief time to shop for some items, then later connect to the hotel or direct to the Kigali International Airport (KGL).
